Old Ironsides?Breast Cancer – Radiation-induced Agony and Metastases – Part 3

The wife of a friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer nine years ago. She underwent mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She was well after that. She was a pride of the medical establishment and was invited to the “Celebration of Life” party. But it was not to be. Soon after receiving the invitation she did not feel well. Her arm swelled and the doctor said this could be due to the effect of radiotherapy done NINE years ago. In November 2002, she was hospitalised and diagnosed as having metastasis of the brain. She underwent radiotherapy. After the tenth treatment she developed severe lung infection and her white blood counts dropped drastically. Further radiation treatments (twenty more sessions) were abandoned. She remained immobilised in the hospital for more than two months. After that, she developed bladder infections. She was discharged from the hospital at the end of January 2003. In mid-March 2003, she passed out stools with blood and her blood pressure dropped (internal bleeding?). On 17 March 2003, my friend called to say that his wife had died that afternoon.

My experience in cancer work has shown that death and suffering do not come suddenly following the appearance of a small lump in the brain. Then, what about the blood in the stools? Could this be another of the effects of radiation? I have once said: “In serious cancer cases, even doing nothing could be better than taking the so-called scientific, proven heroic path.”

Stories from England

The Daily Mail of 31 March 1995 carried an article entitled: “Cancer Deception” by Paul Eastham.
Four angry members of RAGE (Radiotherapy Action Group Exposure) told the Members of Parliament’s Health Select Committee that “thousands of breast cancer victims were ‘fooled’ into having needless radiation which left them crippled and in agony.” They said doctors had assured them that radiotherapy was needed only as a precautionary measure after “their breast surgery and did not warn that their bones could crumble and they could lose the use of limbs.”

RAGE was founded by Lady Ironside who suffered paralysis of the arm after having undergone surgery and radiotherapy because of breast cancer. Her bone became brittle after radiotherapy and she suffered repeated fractures to her injured arm, collar bone and four ribs.

Lady Ironside said: “The radiographers weren’t frank with me.Why Did The Uss Contitution Nickname The Ship Old Ironsides?.

and tweet from the person who looks to have dis
and tweet from the person who looks to have dis

All of us in RAGE were told that there would be no profound side effects. We would suffer perhaps temporary nausea and exhaustion but no permanent injury … Perhaps I was trusting and foolish. Now I suffer severe pains and paralysis. If I had been properly informed about the dangers, I would have walked away and said, “No, thank you”, and taken my chances.”

Later, Lady Ironside discovered that nearly one in five breast cancer patients irradiated at one London hospital suffered severe injuries which would steadily get worse.

The suffering of Lady Ironside is not an isolated case of radiation side effects. Many others have also suffered like her. RAGE represents 1,000 breast cancer radiation victims and is in touch with 2,000 more.

Former art historian Lorna Patch, 72, was forced to stop working after her right arm was paralysed following radiotherapy. She said: “I was never warned about the risks. I am in constant pain. The condition is quite irreversible and progressive.”

Jan Millinglon is a 55-year-old headmistress. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1982. She had a lump removed and then underwent radiotherapy. Jan Millinglon claims that the hospital distributed leaflets at the time of her treatment declaring that the side effects were short-lived. Her right arm, however, is paralysed as a result of radiotherapy.

What Does USS Stand for? and once at 556 114th St

Apparently, we have some elitist muggers roaming around Columbia University.

A pair of robbers are targeting students in Upper Manhattan, ironside. and they are taking the worst thing imaginable – their iPhones. I’m not using “iPhone” and a generic term for “smartphone” like saying “Kleenex” for “tissue.” I mean they are taking iPhones – andonlyiPhones.

If the students don’t happen to have the popular Apple device, these guys refuse to take anything else as a substitute. Android? No Thanks. Blackberry? Get real.

What Does USS Stand for? and once at 556 114th St and once at 556 114th St
, the suspects demanded the victims hand over their iPhones, police said.

The first victim complied, but the second only had a Droid, according to police. The thieves apparently didn’t want a Droid — so they took cash instead.

One student was quoted as saying, “It’s insulting they don’t want my Blackberry.” Columbia Campus police suggest that it might be the high resale value of the iPhone that’s making these robbers so picky.http://www.ironsideeffects.info. I’d like to believe that they just can’t bear the thought of losing the silky smooth vocal stylings of Siri.

Whatever the case may be, Apple could definitely spin this into a new ad campaign. “The iPhone 4S: Because when you want an iPhone, nothing else will do. Just ask these robbers.”

Check out the video below for some surveillance footage of the incidents. Maybe that guy’s right. Maybe Columbia students just need to carry old Blackberries and offer them up the next time they are accosted by our iPhone-only thieves.

Their solution is the picture password

Inpublished Friday, Microsoft talks about their latest technology currently in Developer Preview – and it has to do with security. Passwords, to be specific.

But not just ordinary alphanumeric passwords. The dev team talks about what they hope to be the future of Windows 8 security – picture passwords.

First off, they begin with the premise that creating a solid alphanumeric password is important, but all of the “capitalize one letter” and “include at least two punctuation marks” types of requirements has made the process unnecessarily cumbersome – especially when trying to enter them on smartphones. Even the PIN system of 4 or so numbers (like you see on the iPhone) is tricky for two reason: On one hand, you want something that’s easy to remember, but common passwords like 1234 and 9999 are the most easily guessed. So you might want to pick a sequence that means something to you.Where Is The Tv Show Ironside Located?. like your birthday – but then that can be broken if someone has even the slightest bit of info about you.

Their solution is the picture password, and it’s pretty simple.

It basically works on four variables. Type of gesture,武汉免费优惠. location of gesture, direction of gesture and order or gesture.

When a user sets up a picture password, they pick their own picture from their library. It could be a photo of the user and their dog, or a family photo from last Thanksgiving. The point is that’s is specific and personal to the user. They are then given a grid to set up their gestures.

There are three types of gestures: a single point, a circle, and a line. The password is a set of these three gestures. On that hypothetical picture my dog and me,

List+of+Poem+Types PicturesTheir solution is the picture passwordTheir solution is the picture password

I could for instance draw a circle around the dog’s head, and line from his paw to my face, and a dot on my right knee. Here’s how it looks on one of Microsoft’s text photos:

When the system is judging your swipes to see if you are allowed entry, it takes into account not only the location of your swipes (as in did I draw the line from the paw to the face), but the direction of those gestures and the order in which I perform the three gestures. So, where I begin my circle gesture around the head or which direction I draw the line matters.

According to Microsoft’s test, people were able to complete the gestures in less than 4 seconds. And the combination of gestures is far wider than that or a PIN. In fact, a three-gesture picture password (1,155,509,083) provides about the same “security promise” (measured in possible combinations) as a 5-6 character password.

And what about smudges? They remind us that since the direction of gestures and order or gestures matter, smudges giving your password away shouldn’t be a huge concern:

We’ve also taken some practical considerations to protect you if you use Picture Password. People are often concerned with the smudges left behind on a touch screen and how easy or hard it would be to divine your password based on those markings. Because the order of gestures, their direction and location all matter, it makes the prospect of guessing the correct gesture set based on smudging very difficult even in the completely clean screen case, let alone on a screen that sees regular touch use.

Not quite as awesome as that– but nicely played, Microsoft.

What do you think? Would you like to draw on a family photo in order to unlock your device? Let us know in the comments.

Why Was The Uss Constitution Named The Old Ironsides?,Heather Harde Officially Out At TechCrunch (AOL)

On the post, TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington, “It’s like watching the movie Titanic. You know exactly how it all ends, but you keep hoping it won’t.”

AOL is probably loving comments like that, especially being an investor in Arrington’s CrunchFund.

Arrington also wrote aabout the situation beginning with, “I’m so angry.”

He goes on to sing plenty of praise for Harde, rehash previous AOL/TechCrunch drama, imply that everything is falling apart because of Arianna Huffington’s ego, and say that he believes AOL CEO Tim Armstrong will still figure everything out and “save the day”.

He also throws in a reminder that he’s a shareholder in AOL.

“Other than dial up, TechCrunch is/was the most profitable and fastest growing business unit inside of Aol,” he wrote. “That, ultimately, is why everything fell apart.”

with one piece being half the size of the other

In light of the recent announcement that there will be(I know, a two week break!), where is the panda enthusiast going to get their panda fix?

Well here’s one idea: By making some panda bread (or would you call it Panda bread?)

Googler John Muellerdetailing some of most adorable bread I’ve seen in quite some time. And it looks like it would be pretty good for your holiday leftover sandwiches.

The recipe, originally found on the, is available in full below:

Prep Time: 2 hrs 30 min
Total Time: 3 hrs
Serving Size: 1 sandwich loaf

Ingredients
3 cups Gold Medal unbleached all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 cup milk w/ 1 egg yolk (both should total 1 cup together)
3/4 tbsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 tbsp green tea (matcha) powder mixed w/ 2 tsp hot water, OR green food coloring
3 1/2 tsp cocoa powder mixed w/ 1 1/2 tsp hot water
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, microwave milk and egg yolk for about 30 seconds. Set aside.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer,What Battleship Was Nicknamed Old Ironsides?. combine flour, sugar and yeast.
  3. Add in butter, salt and milk mixture, stirring on low speed with the dough hook attachment.
  4. Increase speed to medium and knead until dough comes together and pulls away from the sides, about 5-10 minutes. If the dough is sticky, add a tbsp-ful of dough at a time until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide dough into three pieces, two about equal and one about 1/3 the size of the other two.
  6. Place one of the large pieces in the stand mixer bowl and mix with green tea/water mixture OR green tea food coloring until desired color is reached.
  7. Remove dough from bowl and place in a lightly greased bowl, covered, to rise until doubled.
  8. Clean stand mixer bowl, then place smallest piece of dough in stand mixer and combine with cocoa powder/water mixture until color is blended through. Remove dough from bowl and place in a separate, lightly greased bowl, covered, to rise until doubled.
  9. Place plain piece of dough in a separate, lightly greased bowl, covered, to rise until doubled. All pieces should double in about an hour.
  10. Once dough is risen, on a floured surface, divide plain dough in thirds, with one piece being half the size of the other two (as you did before). Use one of the larger pieces to form the face. Divide the cocoa dough in quarters and use two quarters to form the eyes.
  11. Quickly place the smallest piece of plain dough between the eyes to keep them in place. Stretch remaining piece of plain dough over the whole bread to lock everything in place.
  12. Take last two quarters of cocoa dough and form the ears.
  13. Divide green dough in two pieces, one twice the size of the other. Take the small piece to fill in the space between the ears. Take the larger piece of green dough and stretch over the whole bread to lock everything in place.
  14. Place dough in a lightly greased loaf pan, cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  15. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  16. Once dough is risen, bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown on the outside (the inside should register 190 degrees F). Allow to cool completely on a cooling rack before slicing or serving.

Then again, if you’re not a baker, why not try one of the most classic viral vids of all time. It’s pretty Panda-ey:
